First election win
Sridhar Babu won on the Congress ticket from Manthani in the 1999 elections, though his Congress party was relegated to sitting in the opposition. He defeated his nearest rival Chandrupatla Ram Reddy by a margin of over 15,000 votes.

Second Term
By the time Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy undertook his padayatra in 2003, Sridhar Babu was the Karimnagar district party president.[13] In the 2004 elections, in which the Congress Party gained power, he defeated the TDP candidate, Somarapu Satyanarayana, by a margin of 42,560 votes.[14] He became a Government Whip in the 12th Telangana.

Third Term
In his third term, Sridhar Babu was re-elected in the 2009 elections, becoming the only Congress MLA to retain his seat in Karimnagar district. During this tenure, he held key cabinet roles, first as Minister for Higher Education and NRI Affairs and later as Minister for Civil Supplies and Legislative Affairs. He resigned from the cabinet in January 2014 during the discussions surrounding the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill.

Campaign activities and overall
In the 2018 Telangana elections, Sridhar Babu secured another victory, winning by a margin of 16,230 votes despite the early dissolution of the Assembly and strong competition. While the Congress formed a broader alliance to challenge the ruling TRS, the TRS returned to power, and Sridhar Babu emerged as one of the few Congress candidates to win, becoming one of just 19 Congress MLAs elected.

Fifth Term.
In the 2023 elections, the Congress party launched a comprehensive campaign in Telangana, with senior leaders addressing rallies and announcing six guarantees. The manifesto, led by Sridhar Babu, focused on the vision of a “Samajika Telangana” based on social justice and inclusive politics, in contrast to the “Bangaru Telangana” narrative of the BRS. Contesting for his sixth term from Manthani, Sridhar Babu ran a well-planned campaign centred on the guarantees and won decisively by a margin of 31,380 votes, defeating Putta Madhukar of the BRS for the third time as the Congress secured a majority of 64 seats while the BRS was reduced to 39.
